About

Creggs National School is a Catholic co-educational primary school on the Galway-Roscommon border, under the patronage of the Bishop of Elphin. The school has three mainstream teachers supported by learning support and resource teachers, along with special classes including the "Sunshine" Class for students with autism and a class for children with severe and profound needs. Facilities include a P.E. hall, a hydrotherapy pool, and a fully floodlit astroturf pitch. The school has received multiple Green Flags and participates in initiatives such as the Active School Flag, Blue Star and Special Olympics. Students take part in events including the Mark Fitzmaurice Football tournament and a coffee morning for Daffodil Day run by sixth class pupils. A book entitled "Scholars" was produced to celebrate 150 years of education in the Creggs area.

History

The school was established on its site in 1852, originally consisting of two main classrooms with little change until reconstruction and repairs in the 1930s. In the early 1980s, the Department of Education decided to construct a new building at Creggs. This new building comprised three classrooms, a staff room, toilets and cloakroom areas. An extension in 2009 added new classrooms and a community centre/gymnasium, and the "Sunshine" Class was established at that time.
