About
Charleville National School is a co‑educational primary school in the heart of Tullamore, operating under the patronage of the Church of Ireland. The school provides a warm, caring and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to develop intellectually, physically, culturally, morally and spiritually. Religious Education follows the traditions, practices and teachings of the Church of Ireland, while the broader curriculum is delivered in line with the Department of Education Primary School Curriculum (1999). A strong emphasis is placed on partnership with parents, clear communication and thoughtful planning to ensure each pupil can reach their full educational potential. The school occupies a modern facility on Church View, equipped to support a range of learning experiences, from hands‑on STEM projects and active‑break challenges to weekly assemblies that foster community spirit. Dedicated ASD provision is offered through the Acorn and Oak classes, ensuring children with additional needs receive specialised support in a nurturing setting. Close ties with the Tullamore Union of Parishes and active involvement in local fundraising and community events further enrich the school’s vibrant, community‑focused ethos.
History
Charleville National School was founded in 1811 by the Earl of Charleville. The original two‑storey building, situated at the junction of Henry Street and Church Street, served the town’s early educational needs and aligned with the nascent National School system of the 1830s. Although the historic structure later ceased to function as a school and was repurposed, the institution continues today from a modern campus on Church View, Tullamore. It remains a co‑educational primary school under Church of Ireland patronage, currently educating 146 pupils with a staff of seven permanent teachers.
