About
Cashel Community School is a co‑educational post‑primary institution that delivers a comprehensive curriculum within a supportive community ethos. The school blends academic rigour with a strong emphasis on personal wellbeing, offering programmes that promote mental and physical health, as demonstrated by its annual Wellness Week. A broad range of extracurricular activities, including choir, science exhibitions, and Irish dancing, encourages students to develop talents beyond the classroom and to achieve national recognition. The campus provides modern facilities designed to meet diverse learning needs, with dedicated resources for additional educational needs and a well‑equipped centre for practical and technical subjects. Recent investment through the Next Generation EU Digital Funding scheme has enhanced digital learning environments, ensuring students have access to contemporary technology. The school’s inclusive policies, robust pastoral care, and active parents’ council further reinforce a nurturing environment where every learner can thrive.
History
Cashel Community School opened on Monday 5 September 1994 after a ten‑year campaign to create a single, comprehensive community school for Cashel and its hinterland. It resulted from the amalgamation of three historic post‑primary schools: Presentation Sisters’ Scoil Mhuire (founded 1905), the Christian Brothers Secondary (established 1869, new building at Golden Road in 1940) and the Vocational School (opened 1934 at Hogan Square). Financial constraints in the 1980s delayed construction, but the project received approval in 1992 and the first sod was turned by Minister for Education Niamh Bhreathnach in spring 1993. The school was officially opened on 16 January 1997 by the same minister, with blessings from Archbishop Dermot Clifford and Dean Philip Knowles. Its coat of arms bears the motto “Foghlaim is Firinne” – Learning and Truth – reflecting its commitment to building on the rich traditions of its predecessors.
