About

Walkinstown in Dublin 12 is the location of Assumption Junior School, a co-educational Catholic primary school with DEIS status and an enrolment of 434. As a junior school it takes children from Junior Infants through to second class, with several classrooms operating at each of those levels. An autism class runs alongside the mainstream classes, and applications are handled separately for the two streams. All pupils wear a tracksuit rather than a formal uniform, in royal blue and navy with a white polo shirt, a choice the school links to allowing more active play and physical education during the day. Environmental work forms part of school life, including recycling stations and planting by classes, and the school holds a Green Flag for Global Citizenship Energy. Digital Schools of Distinction status is also held. A student council draws representatives from each year group. A home school community liaison service operates, and the school publishes policies covering behaviour, attendance, healthy eating and special education.

  • October Mid-Term Break: Mon 26 Oct – Fri 30 Oct 2026
  • Christmas Holidays: Wed 23 Dec 2026 – Tue 5 Jan 2027

Primary schools close for the last two days of the February mid-term week and may use discretionary days to take the full week, so their break can be shorter than post-primary schools'.
